Relocating the “Old West”: Tana French Novels (H903)

H – Literature

Graphic of a computer

Online | July 10, 2024-July 17, 2024

Wednesday: 10:45 AM-12:00 PM

Yes, Tana French writes mystery, or crime, novels. But unlike other books in that tradition, hers are “literary fiction.” She uses the genre only as a framework for structuring plot, and explores from there. In The Searcher, and her latest, The Hunter, she transports the old west” genre to rural Ireland, another time and place, with Cal Hooper, retired Chicago police detective. Over two sessions, we will explore her use of genre and what makes these books literary fiction.

This offering meets for a total of 2 session(s).
