“No! in thunder” encapsulates many of Melville’s views on conventionality and society, seeing “man in nature,” and “nature in man” from multiple perspectives, in many ways making him a modern thinker. The class explores depths in Moby Dick via Melville’s literary nuance.

INSTRUCTOR: Russell Endo

ENDO, RUSS–Trained in poetry with Etheridge Knight in the Free People’s Poetry Workshop of Philadelphia (Etheridge called him Little Brother). His first poem, Susumu, My Name, became the basis of a jazz composition by Sumi Tonooka that appeared on PBS.
