The first amendment in the Bill of Rights contains the four freedoms that are considered fundamental to our democratic society. However, in 2024, freedom of speech, religion, the press (media) and assembly are being debated on university campuses, in state and federal legislative chambers and during presidential campaign speeches. The history, as well as the current events leading up to this interest, will be discussed during the five sessions of the program.

INSTRUCTOR: Claire Sullivan

SULLIVAN, CLAIRE– B.A., history, University of New Hampshire; M.A., educational planning, Syracuse University. Teaching and consulting responsibilities in Finland, Germany, Slovakia and Japan. Teacher and administrator at kindergarten to university level in the U.S. Facilitated past OLLI programs on Islam, American government, immigration and others. Still have time to tend to a garden.
