Summer Walk 2024: Week 1, Week 2, or Full Session (Q900)

Let’s get together and enjoy early summer walks, early in the morning.

Register for Summer Walks 2024 as a full-session offering (four walks, on 6/18, 6/20, 6/25 and 6/27), or as part of Summer Selections weekly packages.

WEEK 1: (Q900) — Tuesday 6/18: meet at Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk at the Bandstand. We’ll walk the boardwalk at our own pace and be sure to retrieve our cars before 10 a.m. Thursday 6/20: James Farm Ecology Center. We’ll enjoy a leisurely walk through meadows, maritime forest, and wetlands to reach the Indian River Bay. GPS address: 30048 Cedar Neck Road, Ocean View, DE 19970.

WEEK 2: (Q901) — Tuesday, 6/25: meet at Bethany Beach Bandstand at 8 a.m. This will give us time to walk the boardwalk, multiple times if desired, as it is only 1/3 mile long from north to south. Then we will stroll through the streets of Bethany Beach starting at the north and look at some of the historic houses featured on the Bethany Beach Heritage Trail. Be sure to retrieve your car before 10 a.m. Thursday, 6/27: Assawoman Canal Trail. Park on Osprey Street in the parking lot directly across from the Ocean View Community Center. Directions will be emailed.

SHERLOCK, MAUREEN–B.S., geology and biology, City College of New York; M.S., geology, University of California, Berkeley. Spent professional career with U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California, and Washington, D.C./Reston, Virginia. Organized and led field trips to geologic and historic sites throughout her career.
