Tuesday: 9:00 AM-10:15 AM

America’s widely copied Constitution has had unusual success and longevity. We take a lawyer’s precise look at its history, how it works, its advantages and disadvantages and some proposals to amend it. We discuss the Founders, their process and their use of English, Roman and ancient Greek history. We stress free elections, the First Amendment and how the Constitution answers current issues, including racial ones.

INSTRUCTORS: Paul Welsh, Mark Olson

WELSH, PAUL–B.A., history, University of Pennsylvania, 1963; J.D., University of Pennsylvania Law School, 1966. Retired litigator, long-term partner in a major Delaware law firm. Authored chapters of a legal practice book and conducted many seminars for lawyers. Published 14 public policy newspaper articles. Active in politics and twice ran unsuccessfully for public office.

OLSON, MARK–B.A., Binghamton University; M.A.L.S. Johns Hopkins University; J.D. University of Pennsylvania Law School. A practicing lawyer, member of the Delaware bar since 1976, semi-retired. Instructs continuing legal education programs including professional ethics, federal tax matters, and specialized property issues. Interest in U.S. history and political philosophy.
