This is a hybrid course. One section meets on site at the location listed; and one section meets online only.The Big Bang model and cosmological observations indicate that the universe contains about 5% ordinary matter (atoms, stars and galaxies), 25% dark matter and 70% dark energy. The existence of dark matter explains observed gravitational effects. The accelerating expansion of the universe could be due to dark energy. Scientists have not been able to directly detect dark matter or dark energy experimentally. This course explores why we think the dark side exists and what it could be.
