Making Peace With Tucson (D902)

Journey along with the instructor’s solo 12,000-mile 30-day Amtrak rail pass during the pandemic, igniting a two-year journey of 7,000 more miles along the spectacular U.S. routes of the Empire Builder, Zephyr, Southwest Chief, Sunset Ltd., Coast Starlight, and Crescent, and including explorations of Glacier, Seattle, San Francisco, Glenwood Springs, Flagstaff and more. A brief morning stop in sunny Tucson shattered the peace and altered the path. A personal story with slides and time for discussion.

INSTRUCTOR: Susan Dion

DION, SUSAN–B.A., University of Connecticut; M.A., Ph.D., American history, Marquette University. Directed a multifaceted women’s center in northern Wisconsin. Taught history and women’s studies. Published research articles, essays and poems. Developed a nonprofit writing project for the chronically ill.
